The van in its yellow

A brief history... AME 543 was first registered on the 4th April 1933 in Middlesex as an Austin Seven light box saloon. After that it was restored by a Mr Ernest Randell from Eastbourne around 1981 when it passed it's first MOT on completion on 12 April 1985. It was restored as an AA van in bright yellow with black fenders. For the next few years it led a sheltered existence and clocked up just 4184 miles. But then everything changed. It was bought by a good friend of the Blackout Buddies, the late Dale Johnson who used it as his everyday transport. In it's new Home Guard livery, It became a legend at 40s events up and down the country, appearing at such prestigious places as Bletchley Park, Chartwell, Duxford, Bovington tank museum, and preserved railways to name but a few. In Dale's hands it covered over 65000 miles attending events, a tribute to his love of all things 40s and his enthusiasm for his passion. We were lucky enough to purchase it from his estate and we proudly take it to events in his memory, so it can continue to educate people as Dale would have wanted! As to the name Autogophasta... It was named after WW1 Mk IV Male tank A41 no 2028 which served on the western front in 1917.
